Description

Grand Master of Japanese Cuisine / Japanese Cuisine Goodwill Ambassador

Born in Tokyo, Mr. Hideo Dekura is a pioneer and a leading figure in Japanese cuisine in Australia, having been based in Sydney since 1972. He has made immense contributions to introducing and promoting traditional Japanese food culture in Australia. He currently runs Culinary Studio Dekura and holds the title of Japanese Cuisine Goodwill Ambassador, bestowed by the Japanese government, in addition to receiving numerous honours, including The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays, for his lifetime achievements.

Mr. Dekura is a true cultural connoisseur with profound knowledge extending beyond cuisine to encompass various Japanese arts, including Chakaiseki (tea ceremony cuisine), Calligraphy, Flower Arrangement (Ikebana), and the Cooking Knife Ceremony (Houchou Shiki - Shijoshin-ryu).

It is an honor to welcome Mr. Hideo Dekura to the judging panel for the International Kimono Competition. With his comprehensive understanding of Japanese culture and extensive experience in international exchange in Sydney, his deep insights will guide the judging of the artistry, cultural context, and international interpretation expressed through the kimono.
